Ian Shippen is a working comedian who almost lost his life. Last week, a Honolulu Police Department officer struck him with a patrol vehicle at the corner of Ala Wai Boulevard and Liliuokalani Avenue in Waikiki. Shippen was walking in a marked crosswalk. He had the right of way.
The Crash
The officer was reportedly making a left turn onto Ala Wai Boulevard during a red light. Two signs at that intersection tell drivers not to turn on red. Video posted online appears to show the officer driving through the intersection and colliding with Shippen as he crossed. Shippen was dragged more than 15 feet before the officer stopped his vehicle.
